72 pigs were seized from a Cattaraugus County property Tuesday during an operation involving the sheriff’s office and local SPCA investigators. Twenty-four of the animals were so sick; they were taken to a Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen for treatment, according to a news release from the group.
The Remaining pigs have been taken in by nearby farms.
The owner of the Folts Road property, Gerald Nason Jr., was arrested and facing charges of 4 counts of cruelty to animals, 4 counts of unclassified misdemeanors, and 4 counts of a class A misdemeanor. The investigation has been ongoing since early January. Nason is held in Cattaraugus County jail on $100 cash bail or $2500 bond.
