The St. Louis Blues earned their first ever Stanley Cup championship Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins in game seven of the best of seven series. Ryan O’Reilly, a former Buffalo Sabre earned the Conn Smythe Trophy after getting a goal in his fourth straight game of the Stanley Cup finals. O’Reilly added an assist and captain Alex Pietrangelo had a goal and an assist too for St. Louis, which had the worst record in the league in early January but won 30 of their final 49 regular-season games. O’Reilly was the first player since Wayne Gretzky to score in four consecutive Stanley Cup Final games. Blues goalie Jordan Binnington made 32 saves, many early in the game where the Blues grabbed 2-0 first period lead.
