Rising senior pitcher Ryan Boyer of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team has been named to the 2018 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) West All-Star Team, league officials announced Wednesday.

“What a great accomplishment for Ryan,” Panthers’ Head Baseball Coach Zach Foster said. “He had been throwing well for Jamestown all season and started where he left off last year there. Ryan has all the tools to be a great pitcher and to pitch at the next level, and I believe people are taking notice of that. Congrats to him and his family and all the hard work he has put in.”

The Bradford native has spent his summer playing for the Jamestown Jammers, working his way to becoming a go-to relief pitcher for the ball club.

At the unofficial midway point of the season, Boyer has tossed 16.1 innings in 11 appearances out of the Jamestown bullpen, leading all Jammers’ regulars with a stellar 1.10 ERA.

Opposing batters are hitting .241 against Boyer and he’s struck out 23 batters faced while walking just three.

Along the way, Boyer has been credited with a pair of victories while earning a save.

Founded in the fall of 2010, the PGCBL is a collegiate summer baseball league comprised of 13 summer baseball teams located across upstate New York in conjunction with Perfect Game USA, baseball’s largest scouting service.

Players of all NCAA levels from all over the country play in the competitive wood bat league. Each year, the league adds to its long list of alumni playing professionally, highlighted by MLB veterans Hunter Pence and J.D. Martinez.

The Jamestown Jammers are one of four teams playing in the league’s West Division, owning the PGCBL’s top record of 20-9. Five other Jammers were named to the 2018 All-Star team.

Joining Boyer on the Jammers from Pitt-Bradford is his classmate and battery partner, catcher Austin Parent.

During his junior season at Pitt-Bradford, Boyer was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Second Team. He led the Panthers’ pitching staff with 58.2 innings pitched and struck out the third-most batters in the AMCC with 66 while posting a 4.45 ERA.

The eighth PGCBL All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 at Dunn Field in Elmira, N.Y.
