The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will open a new bridge on Route 6 in McKean County tomorrow, August 23. The bridge spans Ostrander Hollow on Route 6, about 2 ½ miles west of Port Allegany. PennDOT expects to have the bridge open before 5 P.M. Tuesday. The detour using Routes 155, 446, and 46 will be lifted after the new bridge is open.
Crews have been working since June 21 to replace the old, structurally deficient bridge with a new box culvert. On average, almost 2,900 vehicles will use the bridge each day. With the new box culvert in place, PennDOT can remove the bridge from McKean County’s structurally deficient list.
Motorists are advised that construction work will continue through this week with flaggers in the roadway to alternate traffic as necessary.
L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York has been the contractor on this $800,000 project.
PennDOT thanks area drivers for their patience during this closure and detour.
