A Cuba, New York, man is in jail after a knife-point car-jacking and police chase that ended this morning in Potter County.
Police say 36-year-old Steven Cox was wearing a mask when he kidnapped two women from the Alfred Economy Inn at around 6:45 a.m. They were able to get out of the SUV in Andover, New York, where they convinced him to stop for gas and were then able to get his knife.
Police were able to track the SUV because one of the victim’s cell phones was left in t he car. Police caught up with him in Westfield, PA, where he rammed a police car and then ran away. Police and Steuben County K9s were able to track him to a nearby barn.
He’s in Potter County Jail awaiting extradition to Allegany County.
A man suspected of a car-jacking early this morning in Alfred has been picked up in Potter County.
Police radio reports say the man threatened two women with a knife and then got behind the wheel of the SUV. He let them out in Andover.
Police were able to track the man to Bingham Township in Potter County, where they took him into custody at just before 10 a.m.
Northern Potter schools were on lockout mode while the man was at large.
