Many people think of Columbus Day as the last day of a long weekend, but Senator Wayne Fontana is using the holiday weekend to recognize Pennsylvania’s Italian-American citizens.
He says today we credit Christopher Columbus with Italian immigration to the United States, so it’s a good time to remember the contributions Americans of Italian descent have made to Pennsylvania in arts, law, science, government and other areas.
Fontana says Italian Americans celebrated Columbus Day long before it became a national holiday.
More than 1.5 million Italian Americans live in Pennsylvania.
