Maybe it was people wanting to attend an event at the old Amphitheater one last time, but Chautauqua Institution saw a 20 percent increase in attendance over the 2015 season.
Chautauqua vice president and chief marketing officer George Murphy says it wasn’t just one or two events that helped the attendance figures grow; every day had at least 3 percent more visitors than last year.
He says four Amphitheater events sold out.
The Chautauqua season ended Sunday. Worked resumed on the Amphitheater renovation today. Murphy says they expect construction to be finished before the start of the 2017 season.
