FROM THE OFFICE OF STEPHANIE L. VETTENBURG-SHAFFER
McKean County District Attorney
This week, there have been several reports of children being killed at bus stops by drivers who failed to follow traffic laws across the country. None of these serious incidents have been in McKean County but our local police have received calls of drivers who have failed to stop for busses when children are entering or exiting a bus. The vehicle code of Pennsylvania requires drivers to stop at least ten (10) feet from a school bus when the red signal lights on the bus are flashing and shall not proceed until the flashing red signal lights are no longer activated and all children have reached a place of safety.
Any bus driver, parent or driver who observes a violation is asked to report the violation to police for prosecution.
