Friends of Good Music presents “Music from Syria” with the Kinan Azmeh’s City Band. Described as a “virtuoso” by the New York Times, and “engagingly flamboyant” by the Los Angeles Times, clarinetist Kinan Azmeh was born in Damascus, Syria. He is the first Arab to win the premier prize at the Nikolai Rubinstein International Competition (Moscow, 1997).
A graduate of the High Institute of Music in Damascus and the Juilliard School in New York, he formed City Band in 2006 in New York. With this ensemble, he strives to reach a balance between classical music, jazz and the music of his homeland, Syria.
Tickets are $20 at full price, $16 for season subscribers, SBU staff and Senior Citizens, and $5 for students. Tickets are available by calling the Quick Center Box Office at 716-375-2494.
