Pat Frantz Cercone, executive director of communications and marketing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will discuss social media and the news. According to a Pew Research Center study (2016), 62% of adults get their news on social media. During the 2016 Presidential election, candidates made full use of social media platforms to get their message out as well as attack others. People turn to social media for their news. Pat Frantz was a newspaper woman and received four Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers’ Association awards for investigative reporting, news writing and feature writing. Currently, she leads all of the university’s marketing and communications efforts, including overseeing all publications and advertising, championing the university’s brand, publishing its award-winning alumni magazine, and protecting Pitt-Bradford’s image. She also serves as the university’s spokeswoman and is a member of the President’s Cabinet. She also teaches. Years ago, she taught journalism. Now, she’s teaching social media communication. Please join us for this seminar that promises to be insightful.
