Still, the Pirates took two of three in San Diego and improve to 65-and-70 on the season. Pittsburgh continues its road trip next in St. Louis for a weekend series with the Cardinals.

“For hunters, we’re entering the best time of the year,” said Game Commission Executive Director Stephen Smith. “The early season is upon us, marking the beginning of the new license year, a time when hunters across the state are making plans and preparing for all our exciting seasons ahead. On behalf of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, we wish all hunters a safe and successful year ahead.”

The upgraded mapping center offers a cleaner, more user-friendly interface; faster access to maps and information; live data from authoritative agency sources; improved search, navigation, and overall performance. This platform is available on the agency’s website and will continue to grow as new features and datasets become available.

“Most of us have become very reliant on our smartphones, especially when it comes to maps, so we wanted to ensure our enhanced mapping tool had better mobile functionality,” added Smith. “Beyond that, it’s a more streamlined tool with better search capabilities, updated symbols for map layers, and more. Updates will continue to be added throughout the fall.”

The Canada goose season runs Sept. 1-25 in both the Resident Population Zone and the Atlantic Population Zone. Hunters are reminded that in western Crawford County and northwestern Mercer County, the season runs from Sept. 1-12, with a daily limit of one and a possession limit of three. In the Atlantic Population Zone, the daily limit is eight, with a possession limit of 24.

The mourning dove season begins Sept. 1 and continues through Nov. 27, 2026. The daily bag limit is 15 doves, with a possession limit of 45. The Game Commission has prepared more than 80 managed dove fields on state game lands to enhance hunting opportunities.

As a reminder, Sunday hunting is prohibited for migratory game birds, including waterfowl, doves, and woodcock, throughout the 2026-27 license year.

Licensed junior and mentored youth hunters can hunt ducks, mergansers, coots, gallinules, Canada geese, and brant statewide during a special Youth Day on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026. All waterfowl hunting licensing requirements apply.

Hunting dogs are common partners in both dove and goose fields and are a valuable investment for many hunters. The Game Commission reminds hunters that in Pennsylvania, licensing your dog is required and can be helpful if a dog gets lost or separated while hunting. Visit www.pa.gov/doglicense to learn more.

The Game Commission is also alerting hunters that its current mobile app has been deactivated. The agency’s new “HuntFishPA” mobile app will be managed in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to provide a digital one-stop shop for hunters and anglers. The new app is expected to launch in 2027.

The Bonnies Athletic Fund alone hit its 1.3-million-dollar goal, drawing a record 2,279 donors and marking the fourth straight year it’s topped the million-dollar mark. It’s also the fund’s highest-ever total for both unrestricted gifts and overall giving in any year without a major estate gift boosting the numbers — meaning this wasn’t a one-time windfall, but genuine, broad-based growth in everyday donor support.

Athletic Director Bob Beretta credited the entire Bonaventure community for the achievement, saying the department’s mission of transforming lives through excellence, leadership, and service depends directly on this kind of support. He called it an investment in student-athletes — helping them excel academically, compete for Atlantic 10 championships, and grow as leaders long after they graduate. Beretta thanked donors, alumni, and fans for the milestone, while asking for continued support in the years ahead.

After serving as interim CEO since July, Robinson steps into the CEO position permanently while continuing to serve as nursing home administrator, a position he has held since April 2026. In his expanded role, he will be responsible for overseeing the daily hospital operations of CMH, including the 61-bed skilled nursing facility. CMH employs more than 140 employees and generates more than $16 million in annual revenue. Cuba Memorial Hospital is a nonprofit critical access hospital, serving Allegany County and the surrounding region. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of services, including a 24/7 Urgent Care Center, acute inpatient care through its Medical Care Unit, long-term care and skilled nursing, inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy, palliative care, radiology and ultrasound, laboratory services, social work and nutritional services.

Prior to joining CMH as the nursing home administrator earlier this year, Robinson served as nursing home administrator of Maple City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hornell, NY, a 114-bed skilled nursing facility. Prior to joining Maple City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, he served as nursing home administrator of St. Ann’s Community in Rochester, NY. Before becoming a licensed nursing home administrator, Robinson held general manager positions at other skilled nursing facilities since 2001 with oversight of multiple departments including environmental services, food and nutrition and facilities.

Robinson earned his bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food science from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He has been a licensed nursing home administrator in New York State since 2017.

To celebrate more than a century of caring for the community, Cuba Memorial Hospital hosted its free “Through the Ages” Health Fair and Open House on Saturday, August 22, at the Palmer Opera House in Cuba. The event brought community members together for free health screenings, opportunities to meet healthcare professionals, historical displays and information about healthcare services available locally.

Originally founded in 1923 as Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and incorporated as Cuba Memorial Hospital in 1925, the organization has provided exceptional care close to home for more than a century. Since earning Critical Access Hospital designation in 1997, the hospital has continued to evolve to meet the changing healthcare needs of rural communities while preserving access to essential local care.

In 2026, Cuba Memorial Hospital joined Kaleida Health’s Epic electronic health record as a community connect partner, further strengthening care coordination through a unified electronic health record shared across healthcare organizations in Western New York and portions of Northern Pennsylvania.

New York State Police charged 33-year-old Cody C. Havens with felony grand larceny, felony forgery and criminal possession of stolen property.

Havens was held for central arraignment.

Leone picked up his 310th career Division I coaching win in his Bonaventure debut, a 1-nothing win over Saint Peter’s on a goal from sophomore transfer Ava Reybitz. Deputies of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Adam J. Sullivan on an active bench warrant from Cattaraugus County Court.

Sullivan was released under supervision and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Deputies of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office charged 47-year-old Salvador Casares with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Making a Terroristic Threat, Driving While Intoxicated and felony Aggravated DWI with Prior Less than 10 Years ago. Casares was also issued multiple uniform traffic tickets for return of the Salamanca City Court.

The charges stem from Casares allegedly leading deputies on a pursuit ending on Broad Street.

Cerares was released on his own recognizance and is due back in back in court at a later date.
