The first day of Pennsylvania’s bear season produced just 659 black bears. That’s down from 1,297 bears in 2016. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says the largest bear at around 700 pounds was taken in Venango County. The largest number of bears harvested was 58 in Tioga County. 31 bears were shot in Potter County, 28 were taken in Elk County, 22 were shot in Warren County and 16 were taken in McKean County.
