Organist Dr. Christine Clewell, assistant professor of organ at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her students will perform an organ recital Saturday, Dec. 5.
The recital, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 6 p.m. in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Titled “A Festive Triptych: Voluntaries, Carols and Toccatas,” the concert will feature traditional carols and compositions by the students under the guidance of Dr. John Levey, assistant professor of music theory and composition at IUP and a former member of the Pitt-Bradford faculty.
A graduate of Susquehanna University, Clewell earned her master’s degree at IUP and her doctoral degree in sacred and liturgical studies at the University of Michigan.
At IUP, she teaches applied organ, applied keyboard theory and piano. In addition to her university teaching, she serves as organist at the Zion Lutheran church in Indiana, Pa., and has appeared as a guest soloist at the Washington National Cathedral and other venues.
The Sarah B. Dorn Organ in Wick Chapel was constructed by the Shantz Organ Co. in Orrville, Ohio. It consists of 17 ranks with 1,020 pipes and was custom-built for the chapel.
