State attorney general Kathleen Kane has named a special prosecutor to investigate the email scandal involving high-ranking government officials.
Former Maryland attorney general Doug Gansler will head up the investigation.
During a news conference this morning, Kane explained why she took the next step in the investigation of the pornographic and otherwise inappropriate emails that including pictures and videos.
Kane’s law license was suspended after she was charged for leaking secret grand jury testimony to a reporter, and then lying about. She called the idea that she has no authority to name a special prosecutor while she doesn’t have a working license “nonsense,” and also denies the charges and vows to stay in office while fighting them.
Gansler says his goal is to release all of the “tens of thousands of emails” when he feels it’s appropriate. (He says he will make some exceptions if private, non-related, or sensitive work, information is included in the email.)
