As we told you during Monday’s ARG News Review, the situation in Kane is under control, but is not over.
Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt tells us the ongoing cleanup of the gasoline that migrated into the borough’s sewage system is now being done by United Refining Company and its contractors. United Refining owns Kwik Fill stores. The North Fraley Street Kwik Fill is where the leak was discovered at 4:30 Monday morning.
Holt, borough manager Don Payne, DEP and the Emergency Management Agency will be monitoring the cleanup.
Holt adds that fumes may continue to migrate while cleanup is going on. Anyone who notices the odor of gasoline in his or her home is warned to leave the home and call 911. Crews will be available to take readings.
Six homes were evacuated on Monday, and Holt says he expects that most, if not all, of the residents will be able to return to their homes today once the readings determine that it’s safe.
The affected area is North Fraley Street to Hacker Street, and Kinzua Avenue North to Oak Street.
