Bradford Mayor Tom Riel and the Bradford City Council honored a Bradford resident at Tuesday’s Council meeting as they declared September to be Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
“The mission of Susan Evans, an ovarian cancer survivor and citizen of Bradford,” the proclamation read by the mayor said in part, “whose stewardship in presentations to an array of civic organizations has been to bring about public awareness of this deadly disease.”
Bradford joins the Pennsylvania Senate and House, and the City of Pittsburgh, in recognizing Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Ovarian Cancer is the fifth leading cause of death among women, and the eighth most common cancer among women. It’s estimated that 22,000 women are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer each year, and 14,000 of them will die from the disease.
