More than one-third of the counties in New York have been declared natural disaster areas as the summer drought continues, meaning that farmers in the affected counties may be eligible for assistance from the federal government.
Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties have been named contiguous disaster counties, meaning they are adjacent to those have been declared disasters, including Erie.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says more counties may be added, because its important these counties get the resources they need to make a full recovery.
