NY Gov Candidate: Tax Pot for Roads

A candidate for Governor of New York says that tax revenues from legalizing marijuana could bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the State.

Former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra says that based on research he commissioned, a 13 percent tax on marijuana would bring in half a billion dollars in revenue for New York, as well as local and state tax revenues, which he says he would use to make repairs and improvements to infrastructure.

Giambra had originally entered the race for the Republican nomination in this year’s gubernatorial race, but later decided to run as an independent candidate.
