UPDATE: The police officer is on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation. The suspect, who was wanted on a warrant, is in stable condition in a trauma hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to the torso.
State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting early this morning near the Domtar plant in Johnsonburg.
They say a borough police officer got into a fight with a suspect he was trying to arrest at around 12:30 a.m. The officer tried to use “less lethal” force, but the man kept resisting so the officer fired a single shot.
The man was taken to Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys for treatment.
Troopers have not said why the officer was attempting to arrest the man.
