The oil well fire in the town of Allegany on February 12 has been ruled accidental. The Allegany Fire Department says the fire on Flatstone Road was caused by a malfunction in the tank heater machine at the well. 150 gallons of oil spilled from a tank, but was contained by the Incident Response & Mitigation Services. It took firefighters from six companies several hours to extinguish. The well is owned by Vertical Energy of Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania.
