The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s biennial Arts Gala in October will feature the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
“An Evening with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre” fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. with a dinner that includes wine pairings carefully prepared by Chef Ben Dansberger. Following the meal, diners will enjoy a 60-minute performance in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall.
The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is an internationally recognized professional ballet company that performs traditional and contemporary ballets and develops innovative works.
The ballet performance will feature excerpts from “Raymonda,” “LaSylphide,” “Tribute,” and the premiere of a new work choreographed by soloist Alejandro Diaz. About 45 dancers will perform.
Tickets for the gala are $125 and include dinner, dessert and dancing. They may be reserved by calling the Office of Institutional Advancement at Pitt-Bradford at 814-362-5091 or by visiting www.upb.pitt.edu/Gala.
Tickets for the ballet only are $20 for the public; $16 for faculty, staff and alumni; and $5 for all students and may be purchased at the Bromeley Family Theater box office by calling 814-362-5113 or visiting www.upb.pitt.edu/TheArts.
Following the performance, those attending the gala will enjoy a dessert and cocktail reception with dancing and a silent auction of exclusive items, which includes a suite for a Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game; a sports package with tickets to Pitt-Notre Dame and Pitt-Penn State football games and floor tickets to a Cleveland Cavaliers game; and a Pitt-Bradford history package, including a miniature statue of David Hodges’ Panther statue at Pitt-Bradford.
Proceeds from the Arts Gala will benefit the Marilyn Horne Archive Collection Project, which will renovate the ground floor of the university’s Seneca Building on Main Street in Bradford to house the archives of Bradford native and opera great Marilyn Horne.
The exhibition space will put part of the archives on display in a rotation of artifacts from the archive collection, including musical compositions, costumes, posters and jewelry.
Horne is considered one of the great mezzo-soprano opera singers. She is a recipient of both the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honors as well as four Grammy Awards.
Saber Healthcare Group is the gala co-sponsor, along with support from Zippo Manufacturing Co., Northwest Savings Bank, American Refining Group, Kessel Construction Inc., and Swanson & Sons Inc.
