The Detroit Red Wings dumped the Buffalo Sabres Monday night 3-2. With the win the Red Wings pulled into a tie with the Flyers and within a point of Boston for the third and final spot from the Atlantic Division. The Sabres had just 20 shots on goal in the loss. Zemgus Girgensons and Sam Reinhart scored for Buffalo. Chad Johnson faced only 29 shots on goal, but the Sabres simply couldn’t generate any offense until the final few minutes of the game.
Sabres forward Evnader Kane suffered an upper-body injury in the second period and did not return to the ice. Kane is likely out of tonight’s game in Pittsburgh against the Penguins.
