A Salamanca man has died at ECMC in Buffalo after being struck by a car early Sunday morning along Old Route 17. Sheriff’s deputies say that 23 year-old Watson Cooper was struck by a car driven by a person who they have declined to identify. Cooper, who suffered multiple injuries, was first taken to Olean General Hospital and then transferred to ECMC where he later died. Deputies say that charges against the driver are pending and the car has been impounded. The driver reportedly sideswiped one car and struck Cooper, who was outside a car, and then struck another vehicle. The accident occurred on Old Route 17, near the Red House Bridge, which crosses the Allegheny River.
