After adding road dates with Niagara, Vermont and Northeastern, St. Bonaventure has now completed its 2018-19 non-conference men’s basketball schedule, head coach Mark Schmidt announced Tuesday.
St. Bonaventure will travel to Niagara on Monday, Nov. 12, to face the Purple Eagles at the Gallagher Center. It will be the 159th meeting between the Big 4 rivals and the Bonnies’ first trip to Niagara since 2013. Niagara prevailed in last season’s meeting, 77-75, at the Reilly Center.
The Bonnies will play Vermont and Northeastern back-to-back on Tuesday, Dec. 18 and Friday, Dec. 21 in Burlington, Vt., and Boston, respectively. St. Bonaventure knocked off both teams last year. Matt Mobley’s last-second three-pointer gave the Bonnies an 81-79 win over Vermont Dec. 16 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, while the Bonnies prevailed 84-65 over the Huskies at the Reilly Center on Dec. 20.
In all, St. Bonaventure will play 13 non-conference games this season, with six at home in the Reilly Center, four at true road sites and three contests at the Cayman Islands Classic.
St. Bonaventure’s home games against dates vs. Bucknell (Nov. 7), Jackson State (Nov. 10), Canisius (Nov. 28), Delaware State (Dec. 1), Siena (Dec. 5) and Buffalo (Dec. 8) were announced previously, as was a road contest at Syracuse (Dec. 29) and the Bonnies’ participation in Cayman Islands Classic Nov. 19-21.
The Atlantic 10 Conference schedule will be announced in early September.
Last year, St. Bonaventure finished 26-8, setting a school record for wins in a season. Head coach Mark Schmidt’s team will return two starters, senior forwards Courtney Stockard and LaDarien Griffin. Stockard is the team’s top returning scorer after averaging 13.3 points per game last season. Griffin was co-winner of the Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player award. The Bonnies will also welcome a talented group of six new players.
