The Steelers chose Wisconsin outside linebacker TJ Watt, younger brother of three-time NFL defensive player of the year J.J. Watt, with their first round pick, the 30th overall pick. The 6-foot-4, 252 pound Watt was a one-year starter at linebacker at Wisconsin after beginning his college career as a tight end. Watt, a junior, had 63 tackles and 11 1⁄2 sacks.
He was named first-team All-Big Ten and second-team AP All-American.
Before announcing the pick NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell paid tribute to former Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney who died earlier this month.
