St. Bonaventure’s Courtney Stockard, Kyle Lofton and Osun Osunniyi have earned 2018-19 men’s basketball All-Conference honors, the Atlantic 10 announced Tuesday.
Stockard was named to the All-Conference First Team, while Lofton and Osunniyi were both named to the All-Rookie Team. In addition, Osunniyi was selected to the All-Defensive Team.
A redshirt senior from St. Louis, Mo., Stockard earned the first All-Conference honors of his career. The 6-5 small forward leads St. Bonaventure and ranks seventh in the A-10 in scoring at 15.6 points per game. He also ranks 19th in the conference in rebounding (5.8 per game) and 12th in assists (3.6). Stockard has scored in double figures in 21 of his 23 games played. He missed the first six games of the season with a knee injury and the Bonnies went 1-5 in those contests; since Stockard returned, St. Bonaventure is 15-10 including a mark of 12-6 in the Atlantic 10.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that St. Bonaventure has had an All-Conference First Team player. Jaylen Adams earned First Team honors in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Lofton and Osunniyi are the first Bonnies to make the All-Rookie team in the same season and the first time St. Bonaventure has had an All-Rookie player since Andrew Nicholson in 2008-09. Osunniyi becomes the 12th Bona player to earn an All-Defensive Team selection and first since Youssou Ndoye in 2015.
A 6-10 freshman center, Osunniyi leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks seventh in the country in blocked shots with 81 (2.6 per game). He has blocked three or more shots in 16 games with a high of seven against Jackson State. Osunniyi also ranks third in the A-10 in rebounding at 7.5 per game. In A-10 games, he is averaging 9.1 rebounds per game. The Pleasantville, N.J., native is averaging 7.6 points per game and has five double-doubles.
Lofton has started every game for the Bonnies at point guard and has sparked St. Bonaventure on both ends of the court. He ranks 15th in the A-10 in scoring (14.2), 11th in assists (3.6), eighth in steals (1.5), seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8) and eighth in free throw percentage (.817). Lofton is the only freshman to start every game in a season in coach Mark Schmidt’s 12 seasons at St. Bonaventure. Lofton has also rarely left the court, playing 37.2 minutes per game.
Stockard is joined on the first team by A-10 Player of the Year Jon Axel Gudmundsson of Davidson and his teammate Kellan Grady, Dayton freshman Obi Toppin and VCU guard Marcus Evans.
This is the fourth straight season that multiple St. Bonaventure players have earned All-Conference accolades.
Stockard, Lofton and Osunniyi have led St. Bonaventure to a 16-15 record and a fourth place finish in the Atlantic 10 at 12-6. The Bonnies have won seven of their last eight games.
St. Bonaventure’s next game will be this Friday’s quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament, which is being held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Bonnies will play either George Mason, George Washington or UMass at 2:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.
