About 150 gallons of oil was spilled during an oil well fire in the Town of Allegany this morning, but officials say there was no threat to the Allegheny River or major water supplies.
The Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services say the fire was reported at 5:35 a.m. on Flatstone Road at Chipmonk Road. The fire was out by 10:30 a.m.
They say IRM Services was able to contain the spilled oil so it did not threaten any water.
Vertical Energy owns the well.
Emergency Services, the county health department and DEC are investigating.
Allegany, Knapp Creek, Hinsdale, Limestone, Town of Olean, Westons Mills, and Otto Township firefighters were called to the scene or on standby.
