Coudersport can start using drinking water wells that had been out of service since a spill at a JKLM Energy well pad in Sweden Township last September.
DEP says the results of sampling done in late December indicate all drinking water parameters are well below maximum containment levels, or were not detected at all.
The Coudersport Borough Authority’s East Wells #1 and #2 were taken off-line in late September as a precautionary measure following a surfactant spill at JKLM Energy’s Reese Hollow 118 well pad. During the spill, about 100 gallons of a soap-like substance sometimes used in the drilling process was inadvertently released while workers tried to free a broken drill-bit 570 feet below ground in a Utica Shale well.
The Cole Memorial Hospital wells remain off-line as hospital officials have not asked DEP for approval to place them back in service.
The Oil and Gas program’s investigation into the spill is continuing.
