330,000 gallons of untreated sewage has been discharged into the Allegheny River from the Fourth Street pump station in Olean.
The sewage was released following a power outage. Steps are being taken to contain the spill.
The NY Alert System reported the discharge at about 9:30 this morning, saying it happened over the previous 21 1/2 hours.
The amount of the discharge is about half the volume of an Olympic size swimming pool.
In response to the discharge, the Allegany Fire Department reported the Allegany boat launch has been closed until further notice.
The station is the same one that discharged about 200,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into the river in August of last. That discharge was also attributed to a power outage.
