City of Bradford Police Chief Butch Bartlett and Officer Matthew Gustin are on paid administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation into the arrest of Matthew Confer earlier this month.
Mayor James McDonald tells WESB News that Assistant Chief Mike Ward is filling in as acting Chief while Bartlett is on leave.
He says he can’t comment further.
The city received complaints after the May 5 arrest alleging officer misconduct. Confer had been charged with simple assault, aggravated assault and resisting arrest following a domestic incident on Delaware Avenue. After reviewing the case, including video, McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer dropped the aggravated assault and resisting arrest charges.
