A total of nine more cases of COVID-19 were reported in Warren, Jefferson, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties Friday.
Two were reported in Warren; three each in Jefferson and Cattaraugus; and one in Chautauqua.
91 of 103 people in Cattaraugus County have recovered from the virus; 128 of 154 people in Chautauqua. Pennsylvania does not track the number of people who have recovered by county but, statewide, 77 percent of the people who contracted the virus have recovered.
Pennsylvania today reported its highest one-day total of confirmed coronavirus cases since May — 1,009 — although 175 of those were reported on a delay.
More than one-third of the new cases came from Philadelphia and Allegheny County where health officials say people traveling to beach towns and socializing in bars without wearing masks are the cause of the increases.
McKean, Potter and Warren counties haven’t had any new cases all week. Elk County had 13; Jefferson, 12; Warren, 2; and Cameron, 1.
Olean General has seen a total of 18 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 while Bradford Regional Medical Center has had no COVID-19 inpatients. Both hospitals ramped efforts up in the spring, adding capacity and safety measures in preparation for a possible surge.
Upper Allegheny Health System President and CEO Jeff Zewe says they are ready to ramp up again if the virus begins to spread here, but he says everyone needs to continue to do all they can to protect themselves and others.
“It’s clear that in many other states people relaxed, started heading to the bars, ignored precautions and the results have been disastrous,” he said. “We don’t want that to happen here.”
