ST. MARYS — Domtar Paper Company of Johnsonburg donated funds to the Upland Bird Hunt Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) based out of St. Marys.
“We are proud to be able to support the habitat work that the Ruffed Grouse Society does in northern Pennsylvania by providing funds for tools needed to complete the work. We are hopeful our employees will take advantage of future volunteer opportunities as they arise,” said Luke Dillinger of the Domtar Paper Company.
The Ruffed Grouse Society supports sustainably managed wood harvest and builds habitat projects around science-based forest management. “While wood harvest provides the ‘hamburger’ for wildlife, we try to provide the mustard and ketchup by planting food shrubs, conifer winter thermal cover, and pruning fruit trees for wildlife,” said Jed Hamberger, member of the Upland Bird Hunt Chapter. “This donation allowed us to purchase pruning tools and fencing repair supplies.”
“COVID19 forced us to cancel our habitat activities this year,” said Jed, “but as of right now, we plan on resuming normal habitat activities next year. We are extremely grateful for Domtar’s donation so we could purchase tools and supplies.”
