MARIENVILLE, PA (January 14, 2021) – The Allegheny National Forest has announced the draft decision notice for the South Branch Kinzua Creek Supplemental Environmental Assessment is available for public review and comment. The notice reports no significant impact for the 4,728-acre project.
Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon said he prefers the modified proposed action alternative because, “it supports the next generation of healthy forest.” Fallon added that healthy forests enhance clean air and clean water which, in turn, supports wildlife.
The proposal adds about 189 acres of timber harvesting in 11 previously approved timber stands. This method would focus on the timely removal of the tree canopy when adequate growth of desirable smaller trees can establish healthy forests.
This project is subject to the 36 C.F.R. part 218 pre-decisional objection process. Objections will be accepted for 45 days, beginning on the first day after the legal notice is published in The Kane Republican.
