The Texas Rangers topped the New York Yankees 5-2 last night at Globe Life Field in Texas.
Gio Urshela’s RBI single in the top of the first put the Yanks up 1-0 early in the contest. Gerrit Cole was looking to be the first American League pitcher with 6 wins on the season, but that bid was denied after the Rangers 3-run second inning. Though Cole did set a big league record with 61 consecutive strikeouts in between walks, a streak that began April 12th and ended last night.
The Rangers added their 4th run in the 5th off a solo homer and their final run in the sixth when Adolis Garcia stole home plate. The Yankees capped the scoring with Luke Voit’s first homer of the season.
Before the game DH Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list by New York because of a left quad strain. The move was retroactive to Friday.
The Yankees are now 22-19 on the season, and will start Jameson Taillon in game 2 of the 4-game series against the Rangers tonight.
