The Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 at PNC Park last night on WESB Sports.
Pirates starter Dillon Peters went five shutout innings, surrendering five hits with five strikeouts to help Pittsburgh to its fifth win in seven games following a six-game losing streak.
Yoshi Tsutsugo and Jacob Stallings both finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Ben Gamel and Ke’Bryan Hayes also had 2 hits apiece on the way to a 6-0 Pittsburgh lead after 5 innings.
The Reds started to fight back with a 4-run sixth inning when Peters was pulled for Nick Mears, but could not complete the rally. Nick Castellanos took Chris Stratton deep on the first pitch he saw for his 29th homer. Stratton then struck out Joey Votto looking for his fifth save.
The Pirates are now 53-91 on the season and will play game 2 against the Reds while celebrating Roberto Clemente Day tonight at 6:10 on WESB Sports.
