The Cattaraugus County Legislature is calling for the resignation of two members of the New York State Parole Board.
The members in question, Caryne Demosthenes and Carlton S. Mitchell, vote in March to grant parole to Edward Kindt, who raped and strangled Penny Brown in 1999 when he was 15 years old. Kindt was sentenced to what was then the maximum for his age: nine years to life, and was not required to register as a sex offender.
After his parole, Kindt was released to a halfway house in Duchess County after backlash and a ban on entering the Seneca Nation made it impossible for Kindt to be released into Cattaraugus County.
On Wednesday, the County Legislature voted unanimously to demand Demosthenes’ and Mitchell’s resignation.
