New York Governor Kathy Hochul says the “process was restarting” in the effort to find a new gaming compact between the State and the Seneca Nation.
Last month the State Assembly refused to act on a proposed new compact after Rochester-area legislators balked at Seneca plans to construct a new casino in that area. This led to criticism from Seneca President Ricky Armstrong, Sr.
Hochul, who has recused herself from the negotiations due to her husband’s employment by a competing gaming company, said that she was confident that an agreement could be reached that satisfied all parties.
The current compact expires at the end of the year.
