Olean General Hospital (OGH), a Kaleida Health facility, is proud to announce the arrival of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System to the hospital campus. The robotic-assisted surgical technology is designed to enhance precision, improve patient outcomes and expand surgical capabilities for the region.
The da Vinci Xi, developed by Intuitive Surgical, represents the future of minimally invasive surgery. This technology enables surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions with greater meticulousness and control to improve recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
“We are excited to launch our robotic surgery program here at Olean General Hospital with the introduction of our da Vinci Xi Surgical System. We are proud to support our medical team with this investment in technology, so they can continue providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Dr. Jennifer Rogers, chief medical officer (CMO).
The new da Vinci system will be a crucial tool for Dr. Brian Dinerman, urologist, general surgeons, Dr. Dadrie Baptiste, Dr. Eduardo Morales, Dr. Robert Jones, along with Dr. Tahir Chauhdry, obstetrics/gynecology, as this enhances local surgical care. Surgeons trained on the da Vinci Xi will be able perform numerous abdominal, gynecological and urological procedures such as colorectal, hernia repair, gall bladder, prostate, kidney, ovaries and uterine surgeries.
“Offering robotic-assisted surgery provides our patients with more advanced surgical options, right here at Olean General Hospital,” added Dr. Rogers. “This will reduce the need for our community members to travel to an urban center to get advanced care, keeping care close to home.”
The da Vinci Xi offers advantages to the surgeons performing the procedures, including enhanced accuracy and dexterity, 3D high-definition visualization and improved ergonomics during procedures.
“The introduction of the da Vinci Xi system supports our ongoing commitment to advancing health care in our region,” said Bradley J. Chapman, president. “We are dedicated to providing our community with access to leading-edge technology that supports better outcomes, faster recovery and the highest standard of surgical care.”
OGH is offering the community an opportunity to come see the new surgical technology in person. The “Meet the Robot” event will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 6 p.m. in the OGH Education Center where the surgical team will be providing demonstrations of the da Vinci Xi robot.
OGH anticipates having the da Vinci Xi to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2026.
