The New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended that the St Mary of the Angels Complex in Olean be added to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
These Registers are the official lists of buildings, structures, districts, landscapes, objects, and sites significant in the history, architecture, archaeology and culture of both New York State and the nation. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the recommendations Thursday, saying “The history of the people of New York is imprinted in the architecture and places around us.”
The St Mary Complex includes the Roman Catholic Basilica St Mary of the Angels, and is one of 19 properties and districts that the state has recommended for the registers.
