The Holiday Inn Express on Main Street in Olean was temporarily evacuated, and one person was injured Tuesday because of chlorine leak.
According to the Olean Fire Department, firefighters responded to a reported chemical spill at the hotel about 3:30 in the afternoon, where they found a person in severe distress near the building’s front entrance. After making entry, fire crews identified a container actively off-gassing chlorine, and the Hazardous Materials Team was called in.
As a precautionary measure, the hotel was evacuated, temporarily displacing approximately 10 guests. Following removal of the hazard, the building was thoroughly ventilated and subsequently returned to hotel management.
