The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team fell to George Washington, 61-47, on the road Wednesday evening in the nation’s capital.
Aaliyah Parker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bonnies while Elyse MacDonough registered a new career-high with 10 points to go along with four rebounds.
Bona’s offense got out to a slow start, making just three out of its first nine shots as George Washington built and early five-point, 11-6, lead midway through the period.
The Revolutionaries saw their lead grow to double-digits, 16-6, as part of an 8-0 run.
Parker was able to end the drought with a pair of free throws, cutting the deficit back to single digits.
With time winding down in the first, Mackenzie Pettinelli knocked down a three as the first quarter horn sounded to pull the Bonnies back within six, 20-14, after one.
George Washington grabbed the momentum back in the second, using a 6-0 spurt to take a 29-17 lead with 4:46 left in the first half.
The Revolutionaries kept the foot on the gas, taking a 34-21 lead into halftime.
The Bonnies came to life in the third, opening the period on a 10-2 run and cutting their deficit down to five, 36-31.
George Washington, however, outscored the Bonnies 17-4 over the final 5:34 of the third to take a commanding 53-35 lead over the Brown and White.
The hosts kept the pressure on, maintaining their double digit lead for the victory.
The Bonnies return home to host Fordham in the regular season finale Saturday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
Saturday will be Senior Day at the Reilly Center as the Bonnies will honor Mya Davidson, Gabby Robinson, Aaliyah Parker and Laycee Drake.
