The Bonnies baseball team split the weekend with Saint Louis — and saved their best for last.
On Friday, the Billikens erupted for a five-run fifth inning to flip a 3-0 Bonnies lead, rallying for a 7-5 victory in the Atlantic 10 opener at Mercyhurst Field in Erie.
Saturday went to Saint Louis as well, leaving the Bonnies in a difficult spot heading into Sunday’s series finale.
But Bonaventure answered.
The Bonnies exploded for three runs in the first inning and six more in the second, building a commanding 9-0 lead and cruising to a 14-3 win over the Billikens.
The result leaves St. Bonaventure at 5 wins and 16 losses on the year, one and five in Atlantic 10 play. The road ahead is steep, but Sunday’s offensive outburst showed there’s plenty of fight left in this squad.
Leading the charge offensively this season is Anthony Fernandez, who’s batting .343 to pace the Bonnies lineup.
Up next for St. Bonaventure — a midweek trip to Penn State on Tuesday before the Bonnies head to Richmond to face VCU next weekend.
