The Bradford Owls are off and running in 2026.
Despite a rocky start — falling behind two-nothing in the first inning — Bradford’s baseball team settled in fast and cruised to a 6-3 opening day victory over Johnsonburg Tuesday afternoon.
After going down early, the Owls erupted for six runs in the second inning, fueled by a Lucas Wallace lead-off hit, a Jackson Peterson RBI single, and then five straight Bradford batters finding ways to score. Just like that — a 6-2 Bradford lead and the nerves were gone.
On the mound, starter Tarren Reese and Lucas Wallace combined for eight strikeouts and kept Johnsonburg off the bases all the way to the seventh. When the Rams threatened late — loading the bases with three walks — closer Braylon Austin locked in, struck out a batter, then fielded a pop fly to seal the win.
Brody Haviland led the offense going two-for-three with an RBI. Head coach Eric Haynoski liked what he saw — calling the second inning eruption clutch and praising this young team’s drive and work ethic.
The Owls host Punxsutawney Monday before a gauntlet of four games in seven days. Bradford baseball is back.
