A gut punch in Buffalo Wednesday night.
The Sabres gave up an overtime goal to fall to the Boston Bruins 4-3 at KeyBank Center — a tough loss that stings, especially after Buffalo stormed back in the third period to tie it up.
Boston controlled the first two periods, going up two-nothing through forty minutes. But Buffalo’s Jason Zucker had other ideas — he buried two power play goals in the third to knot it at three and force overtime. It wasn’t enough. David Pastrnak — the Boston star — ended it in OT, finishing with a goal and two assists for the night’s first-star honors.
The Sabres outshot the Bruins and went two-for-three on the power play, but couldn’t finish in extra time. Zach Benson added the other Buffalo goal.
Buffalo drops to second place in the playoff chase but stays in a strong position with games still in hand. The Sabres are back home Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings at seven Eastern.
