A split weekend for area hockey fans.
In Buffalo, the Sabres dropped Friday’s home opener against Detroit, falling five to two. But they bounced back Saturday in a tight one — edging the Seattle Kraken three to two at KeyBank Center to salvage the weekend with a win. No game Sunday for the Sabres, but that split feels a lot better than what could have been.
Down in Pittsburgh, it was a tough Saturday for the Penguins. Dallas came to town and skated out of PPG Paints Arena with a six to three victory, leaving the Pens on the wrong side of the ledger as the regular season winds down.
The Penguins hit the road Monday to face the Islanders, while the Sabres host New York Tuesday night. Two franchises, two very different playoff pictures — but plenty of hockey still left to play.
