The Pirates couldn’t get anything going last night in Cincinnati.
Pittsburgh was shut out by the Reds 2 to nothing to open this three-game series — four hits, zero runs, and a whole lot of runners left on base. The Bucs went oh-for-six with guys in scoring position, which pretty much tells the whole story right there.
Braxton Ashcraft gave them six solid innings, but Cincinnati’s Chase Burns was just better — seven strikeouts, one hit allowed. The only runs of the game came on a Will Benson triple and a Spencer Steer sac fly in the fourth, and that was all Cincinnati needed.
Tonight Pittsburgh gets a chance to even things up — rookie Owen Chandler takes the ball for the Pirates against Cincinnati lefty Brandon Williamson. First pitch at 6:40 right here in Cincinnati. Win tonight and there’s a rubber match Wednesday morning at 11:40 to salvage the series.
The offense has been quiet — tonight’s a good time to change that.
