The Pittsburgh Penguins put on quite a show last night out on Long Island.
Pittsburgh buried the New York Islanders 8 to 3 in what turned into an absolute blowout — but it wasn’t always pretty. The Islanders jumped out to a 3-nothing lead before the Penguins flipped the switch and scored five goals in the second period alone to take control. Five. In one period.
Anthony Mantha was the star of the night — two goals, an assist, and the first star of the game. The Penguins shot a blistering 26 percent on the night and never looked back after taking that second period lead, tacking on three more in the third to put it away.
A statement win for Pittsburgh as they push toward the end of the regular season. The Penguins are back at it tonight — hosting the Detroit Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop at 7 o’clock.
