The New York Yankees rolled into Seattle last night and shut the Mariners out completely — winning 5-0, behind a gem from left-hander Max Fried.
Fried was as good as it gets — seven innings, three hits, zero runs, six strikeouts on just 90 pitches. Seattle’s lineup had no answer for him all night.
Offensively, Giancarlo Stanton led the way going two for four with two RBI, while Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice each added a pair of hits. New York jumped on Seattle starter Logan Gilbert early — plating two runs in the first inning — then broke the game open with three more in the sixth to put it well out of reach.
The Yankees and Mariners wrap up this three-game series this afternoon in Seattle, first pitch at 3:10 Central. New York looking to take the series before heading home to open up against Miami on Friday.
