A good night for area hockey fans last night — both the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins picked up wins.
Starting in Buffalo — the Sabres held off the New York Islanders 4 to 3 in a back-and-forth one. Buffalo scored three times in the third period to pull away after the Islanders tied it up in the second. Tage Thompson and Jack Quinn both found the back of the net, with Quinn’s power play goal proving to be the difference. Peyton Krebs took first star honors. A big two points for Buffalo as they push toward the end of the regular season.
Over in Pittsburgh — the Penguins made it two in a row, rolling past the Detroit Red Wings 5 to 1. Pittsburgh came out flying, scoring three goals in the first period and never looking back. Egor Chinakhov was the first star with a goal and an assist. Anthony Mantha scored the winner. Stuart Skinner was sharp between the pipes, earning second star honors.
Two wins, one night. Both teams back in action later this week.
