The Buffalo Sabres steamrolled the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night at KeyBank Center — shutting them out 5-0 in a statement performance with the playoffs just around the corner.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the first period and then went to work in the third — erupting for four unanswered goals to put Columbus away for good. Josh Doan was outstanding — finishing with two goals and earning second-star honors. Rasmus Dahlin added a goal from the blue line, and Logan Stanley quietly put together two assists in one of his better games of the season. The Sabres held Columbus to zero — zero — on the power play, going four-for-four on the penalty kill. That’s playoff hockey right there.
Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was locked in all night — turning aside all thirty-seven Columbus shots for the complete shutout. Columbus put up shots, but couldn’t find a way through.
With the win, Buffalo moves to forty-eight and twenty-three on the season — still hunting Tampa Bay for the Atlantic Division lead with just a handful of games left.
Up next — the Sabres head to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks Monday night at United Center.
